Andrea & Gavin’s Wedding – Kronenburg Estate

Saturday, September 25th, 2010

Gavin and Andrea got in touch with  me through their friend Kath, whose wedding I photographed a year ago almost to the day, at the same venue, Kronenburg Estate (between Wellington & Paarl)!  I always ask my couples what they’d be up for – whether they would be happy to lie on the grass or climb into bushes or would they prefer to keep to more safer, traditional  poses and spots.  Andrea and Gavin were up for anything and I love the shots of them on the grass.  There was a massively affectionate dog patrolling the area where we did the photo’s, so every time they lay on the grass the dog would plonk itself down next to them and roll over wanting to play.  The weather was amazingly sunny all day.

Almari Niewoudt assisted me and second shot on the day – have a look at some of her work on facebook under “Almari Photography” – her website will be up and running shortly!

Thanks Gavin and Andrea for going with the flow – l loved shooting your wedding!

Every now and again I feel like shooting a bit with my old faithful holga camera. Most of these were taken in khayelitsha and the last two along Blouberg beach.  The double exposure happened by pure, beautiful accident – i thought i’d wound on the film to the next no. but had actually forgotten.

The beauty of using the holga is that you don’t quite know what you are going to get – sometimes double exposures and other times beautiful light leaks.

For me, it’s a fun, no-pressure way of getting creative and using film again. A note on film – these were taken with medium format film which has long expired!  My fridge has it’s own film compartment with rolls of film from way back like 5 years ago.

For more info on lomography and shooting with a holga, view one of my older posts under the category “holga”.

God, I love AFRICA!!!!!
