Reach For A Dream – Amonique’s fashion shoot

Monday, February 22nd, 2010

Amonique is a confidently quiet 11 year old girl from Sedgefield.  She has Aplastic aneamia – I had never even heard of it so I googled it.  It’s a condition where bone marrow doesn’t produce enough new cells to replace blood cells.  Amonique’s dream was so shopping and then have a fashion shoot.  Kerry Vercuil, a volunteer from Reach For A Dream, took  her shopping and then we met at the Protea Hotel for lunch with Amonique’s dad, before starting the shoot.  Protea Colosseum in Century City, once again kindly let us use the penthouse suite.  Here are a few images from the day.

Mel & Jon, Pringle Bay, South Africa

Friday, February 19th, 2010

I love shooting out of Cape Town – it always feels like an adventure, and a day away can feel like a good week away.  Mel & Jon had their awesome wedding at Gecko House in Pringle Bay.  Sometimes it’s difficult to select images for a blog when there are just so many cool one’s to choose from.  I like to mix up the blog entries to show variety – some entries I’ll focus mostly on group shots, other times on the bridal shoot, or detail shots.  For Mel and Jon’s blog entry, I wanted to do mostly shots of Mel, as well as a mix of bridal shots and a couple of group shots.  Every wedding is completely different – some are serious and formal, others whacky and light.  What I loved about Mel & Jon’s wedding was the energy and laughter throughout the day and the complete ease with which the day flowed.  It was hectically windy, but sometimes that can be a complete bonus.  The first shot in this series is my favourite – the sand was blowing off the beach so much it looks like shooting stars.  It stung the heck out of us and made it’s way onto every bit of hair and flesh that was showing.  When I arrived home and took my shoes off, I had half the beach in there.  Mel and Jon were heading to Mozambique for their honeymoon, then back home to the UK.  Thanks to both of you for braving the chilly wind and stinging sand.  The unbelievably stunning sunset made up for it – a perfect end to the evening.

Tash & Rob, Beach shoot

Monday, February 15th, 2010

I’ve known Tash several years now, and she’s become a very good friend.  I first met Rob on the morning of the shoot at Eden On The Bay near Blaauwberg Beach and was fascinated to see so many tattoos.  Tash had told me she was seeing this amazing guy who is a tattoo artist and owner of his own tattoo parlour, I just didn’t think that he’d have that many!  He was practically covered everywhere in tattoo’s, the detail of each piece was a work of art. We found a deserted area on Blaauwberg beach and did some intimate shot’s. I love the contrast of Rob’s tattooed body against Tash’s skin.  The shoot was a valentines gift to Rob.

Sandra & Peter, The Straighway Head Hotel, Somerset West

Saturday, February 13th, 2010

This is the 3rd wedding i’ve photographed at The Straightway Head Hotel.   This gem of a venue is so special as it can be transformed into so many varying looks – each time with a completely different feel and energy.  The owners and staff are super friendly, and forest-feel and wild flowers create the most romantic setting for any wedding.  Sandra’s daughter Lisl contacted me and asked if I’d do the wedding photographs for her mom and Peter – it would be a gift to them from Lisl and her sisters.  When I first met Sandra I was welcomed with the biggest hug and I new the shoot would be awesome.  Sandra and Peter met at a bowling club and the rest is history!

I did their bridal shoot before the ceremony, which as i’ve said before, I highly recommend to future couples.  Less stress and then once the ceremony is done, plenty of time to relax and party!  Thanks Sandra and Peter for being so openly warm and just enjoying every minute of the shoot. I had a good laugh with you both!
