Triya & Idrissa, Straightway Head Hotel, Somerset West

Saturday, January 16th, 2010

Triya and Idrissa had their signing ceremony and reception at The Straighway Head Hotel in Somerset West. I was so happy to be shooting there again as it’s one of my favourite venues – it has wild flowers growing everywhere, and there is just so much open space and so many huge trees to enjoy.  Even on the sunniest of days, shady areas can always be found which is great for photographers having to shoot in the middle of the day.

Two years ago, I photographed Triya’s brother Karlinds wedding, so it was awesome to see so many familiar faces again.  Triya was stunning to photograph -  Idrissa made her laugh so much It was easy to capture so many beautiful moments between the two of them.

Jaap and Frederike, Klein Genot, Franschhoek

Saturday, January 9th, 2010

What a start to the day….on my way to Jaap and Frederike’s wedding I got a flat tyre on the N1.     When I arrived at a 4-way crossing a guy selling wire hearts came up to the window and said in his oh so very South Africa accent “Hey lady, your tyre is pap”. Lucky for me I was right across the road from the garage where my tire was changed in minutes and I got to the wedding 20 min early.  It was weird because something in me said ‘leave home now Monica, leave right now’. Moral of the story…always leave enough time to arrive extra early and listen to that little annoying voice in your head!

Many of my clients come from abroad and often I only get to meet with them on the day of the wedding – which is what happened with meeting Jaap and Frederike.  They flew in from Holland with family and the wedding party was all of about 12 people.   They decided to have their couple shoot done before the ceremony – but before this happened, Frederike went to wait on the balcony for Jaap to arrive. He arrived carrying flowers and and emotions ran high and the tears flowed.  I wish more couples would decide to see each other before the ceremony – there is still the anticipation and build up of seeing the other.  It also means time to relax into the photo’s and more time to spend with the guests after the ceremony.   The ceremony was held outside among the vineyards and reception was held in cozy and intimate room  at Klein Genot in Franschhoek .  Klein Genot is a spectacular venue set in the heart of lush green vineyards.  What was particularly great was that even during peak sunlight there were so many shady spots to shoot in.  Jaap and Frederike, thanks for being super relaxed and giving me free reign with to shoot.

Cara and Narcolette from The Aleit Group organised the day and everything unfolded beautifully.  Once again “Flowers In The Foyer” created breathtaking flower arrangements.
