Michelle and Edward got married at a little church near Kirstenbosch gardens, and had their afternoon reception at KwaLapa at Montebello Design Centre . KwaLapa ( ‘telling the stories of food)’ is an organic restaurant/ deli tucked away in Newlands Avenue, just around the corner from Kirstenbosch Gardens. It is a real gem of a place – the type of place you want to keep secret, but at the same time, tell the world about! What I found so special about KwaLapa, is that it’s in a bedouin tent, and In the middle of it is a massive ficus tree – so the restaurant is actually built around the tree!. Surrounding KwaLapa there is a close knit community of people who make jewellery, wooden hand carvings, stunning African paintings…and then tucked away at the back is a little nursery jam-packed with quaint little finds for a garden. Some of Michelle and Ed’s guests flew in from the UK and enjoyed the sunshine in one of the most beautiful areas in Cape Town. Thanks Michelle and Ed for your patience with this blog update during this busy wedding season!

Love really can happen just about anywhere…and sometimes when you least expect it! Chantal and Hugo were married at Backsberg Estate Cellars the 17th October 2009 – a year to the day they met after a hike on Mount Kilmanjaro! What a place to meet -how incredible! The magic of life and love, is that every day is like an unopened gift (or as Forest Gumps mom says “like a box-a-chawwwwclates) – sometimes there’s something you’re going to unwrap and completely love, other times not. Chantal got ready at the vintage/country-style Simondium Country Lodge. There are so many nooks and crannies there, with unexpected finds – wire hearts, old milk jugs, rusty chairs…and a real peacock that made himself known! It was so awesome, I had to include a recording of it’s call: peacock.wav
The wedding was black tie, and the fresh white decor with elegant splashes of colour set the scene for the day. Friends and family enjoyed canapes and drinks on the lawn on a super sunny day while Chantal, Hugo and I snuck off to do the bridal photo’s.

Sanelisiwe Nketyana (aka Sane – pronounced ‘Sunny’) is the bravest, most humble 13 year old girl I know, who has Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. She recently underwent sessions of chemo at The Red Cross in Cape Town. Sane’s dream was to go clothes shopping and eat at a fancy restaurant, something many of us take for granted. Esna Reineck and Kerry Vercueil, both volunteers from Reach For A Dream, took Sane shopping around Canal Walk, and the afternoon was followed by lunch, a make-over and a really fun photoshoot at the Protea Colosseum Hotel. General Manager, Stuart Twine of the hotel, very generously offered us the penthouse to do the fashion shoot in, provided a five star lunch and gave Sane first class treatment. Make-up artist Gabi Hough did Sane’s make-up and lovingly fussed over her, and the afternoon was spent photographing her blowing large bubblegum bubbles, jumping on the bed and having fun modelling all her funky clothes. She was stunning to photograph and was a real natural in front of the camera. Reach For A Dream and Mr Price co-sponsored all her outfits and Sane ended up with an entirely new wardrobe. For those of you that aren’t familiar with Reach For A Dream, this incredible charity started with sponsoring their 1st dream to a child in 1988. The organisation has defined their core purpose as “fulfilling the dreams of children of any race, colour and creed between the ages of 3 and 18 faced with a life-threatening illness.”

In 2006, I had the amazing opportunity to photograph Bafana Bafana legend, Matthew Booth and his stunning bride, and model Sonia nee Bonneventia Pule’s wedding. I remember them being very unassuming, warm and sincere which made photographing them an absolute pleasure. In an interview with both Matthew and Sonia, a selection of the wedding images which I took of them, were shown on Top Billing. Here are a few of the images from their beautiful wedding day.
