I have to share this story of synchronicity and how I came about photographing Louise and Clive’s wedding at Rickety Bridge in Franschhoek. My friend Sean Calitz photographer referred me to his close friend Louise who lives in Australia and was planning a wedding in South Africa. So Louise and Clive booked me for their big day. A little while later, while Louise was out and about in Sydney with her friend Alicia, Alicia said she new of a photographer (me!) in Cape Town . They were both then completely shocked that Louise had already booked me. It so happened, that last year when I was in Egypt on a girlie holiday, I met and became friends with Alicia (who lives in Australia)…and had no idea that Alicia and Louise were friends. Small world!
Ok, back to the wedding day….a beautiful sunny day, a small wedding party, a lovely intimate ceremony, and a fantastic wedding brunch under a marquee! The day couldn’t have been any better. What is great about Rickety Bridge when it comes to photo’s, is that even if the wedding takes place in the middle of the day with full sunlight, there are loads of areas in the shade for shooting in.
Louise and Clive – wow, it was so cool to meet you both and thanks for being so patient with me uploading my blog! See you in Australia next year (well that is the plan so far!)x

Bret is a pilot and Nicole an air steward and they met in the air! They live in the USA and flew to South Africa with Bret’s best friend and Nicole’s sister Lydia. It’s not often I get to shoot a wedding with such a small bridal party of 4! We did some creative photo’s in Franschhoek at their guest house, then headed off to Haute Cabriere for the ceremony in the cellar. Following this we headed into Franschhoek centre to ‘play’ some more and had a blast in the streets. This was the longest time I’ve ever had with a couple doing the bridal photo’s – 4 hours in total (with 20min for the ceremony).

16th May 2009
Jenny and Hamish got married on one of the STORMIEST days in Cape Town! It was also my last wedding for the South African wedding season! It poured so much that Jenny had to get ready at Haute Cabriere, as even getting from the car to the ceremony would have left her soaked. The light though, was incredible – with thick, dark and dramatic clouds and bursts of sunlight. We managed 20 minutes of shooting outside before the heavens opened again, but what a fantastic wedding! Hamish and a few of the guys wore traditional kilts which looked really cool and fitted in really well with the Scottish-type weather. I have to mention the favours on the tables – the best, and I mean without a doubt, the BEST shortbread biscuits I have ever eaten!!!

Every time I photograph a wedding, I love to get to the nitty gritty of how the bride met her groom. In this chaotic world of billions of people, the fact that two people can ‘find’ each other and connect on such an amazing level, is just beautiful. Jess left the UK on a whim over a year ago to spend some time in Cape Town. Not knowing anyone, she phoned a local church to request a pick-up on her first Sunday, and Neil arrived! They both flew to London 3 months later where Neil proposed….and the rest is history!
Their wedding took place at the elegant Alee Bleue in Franschhoek.

Lynette and Justin got married at Haute Cabriere, Franschhoek on a beautiful sunny day. Lynette was the calmest bride i’ve ever photographed – there were no nerves showing even when she got up to take the mike! A very awesome wedding and such a cool couple!

Vrede-en-Lust is one of the many beautiful wine estates in the Franschhoek area, and I love shooting weddings there. The day I photographed Elzanne & MJ’s wedding was also my birthday – and since I never think of shooting as work, I was so excited to be doing what I absolutely love on this double celebration of a day. Elzanne & MJ are both doctors, so as you can imagine, a huge part of the wedding party were doctors too! Flowers In The Foyer did the most stunning flowers and decor – black and white Baroque theme which was elegant, fresh and classy. Elzanne & MJ, thanks for being so laid back on your wedding day and incredibly awesome to photograph!
