The very charming Abbey Manor luxury guesthouse in Oranjezicht, Cape Town, was built in 1905, and was the setting for a stunning boudoir photoshoot. Boudoir shoots can be very private and sometimes clients wish to remain anonymous. Once I’ve done your shoot, I will only upload the images you approve of.
A special thanks to the lovely Judi for being so accommodating with her guesthouse. Not only do I highly recommended Abbey Manor for your boudoir shoot, this is a great gem of a guesthouse with the most spectacular views all around.

My last wedding of 2012 was organised to perfection by Kate Rawbone at WEDDING CONCEPTS! I love working with Wedding Concepts, because it means the entire day is planned out meticulously to schedule, and I get directed where to be next! Easy as pie! There were a lot of laughs during the getting ready, while the lovely bridemaid’s fussed over Monika. Special thanks to the super talented Charlene Shreuder who 2nd shot with me – I love her photos of the guys getting ready.
Monika & Ronan had their ceremony under the shady oak trees at Palmiet Valley Estate in Paarl, on one of the hottest days of summer. Keep a look-out for part two which will be up later today!

If you haven’t already seen part one, click here. Following Monika & Ronan’s stunning ceremony under the oak trees, they headed off to sign the register. Drinks and canapes followed on the sundeck overlooking the mountains and vineyard. The sounds of Jeremy Loop’s folk band filled the air and was the perfect entertainment for an afternoon in the sun. A highlight of the day was when Ronan took to the mike and sang for Monika. Everyone was in hysterics as a distortion unit was attached to the mike, and what came out of the mike was not quite Ronan’s voice! Thanks Monika & Ronan for booking me to shoot your wedding – I can’t wait for you to see the rest of your photos!

Joanne and Ken flew into South Africa from Hong Kong to have a pre-wedding couple shoot done with me. They wanted some variety to their images – so we started off in the Gardens in Cape Town, moved onto Long Street and ended on Blouberg Beach. To say Blouberg was windy is an understatement! It was blowing gale force winds, but in hindsight I love the movement on Joanne’s dress which added to the magic. Joanne and Ken thank you for being so enthusiastic on the day and for keeping a smile despite the chilly wind. I hope to see you both again someday.
Marni Bezuidenhout did Joanne’s make-up – and Ida Webster did her hair.

When Sally, a former Air Hostess, contacted me to photograph her and Leighton’s wedding, she said she had chosen me because of the boudoir shoot I did on an aeroplane several months ago….! I haven’t photographed a wedding at Vrede-en-Lust in a while, so I was happy to get a chance to do their intimate wedding. Family and friends flew in from the UK and USA to celebrate the day with them. Weddings don’t always have to follow the traditional route: They first met guests on the lawn for drinks, followed by the couple shoot, speeches, ceremony and reception. It made for a super relaxed day where they could enjoy the wedding and fantastic weather with everyone.

Cap Classique is one of my all time favourite wedding blogs. When Gaby very kindly decided to feature the wedding of Clive and Louise, I was thrilled. As Gaby sums up her blog: “Cap Classique came from having seen many of my friends over here struggle to find information on the net to help plan their weddings at home, and also a desire to promote South African venues and suppliers, which I think are some of the best in the world! I’m passionate about the Cape, and very proudly South African.”

Helena and Andrew are from New Zealand and chose Franschhoek to celebrate their very intimate wedding. No guests, just the 2 of them committing their love to each other under some beautiful trees and amongst the stunning backdrop of the mountains. The lovely Kate Rawbone from Wedding Concepts organised all the finer details for them. With Wedding Concepts, I always know: No. 1 - The wedding is going to be organised to perfection and No.2 – The venue and details are going to pretty special. Franschhoek really is one of South Africa’s gems and having the chance to shoot at Mont Rochelle was breathtaking. Thanks Helena and Andrew for being so relaxed – I had a great time with you both. Hopefully see you in NZ next February if all goes to plan!

Jono and Jolene are totally dynamic! When they suggested a meet-up and some photo’s of them and some friends at Seattle Coffee straight after their ceremony, before heading off to Little Stream for the reception picnic, I knew the wedding was going to be a blast. Beforehand my brain was ticking over-time…I was thinking, mmm coffee shop….mmm bookstore next door…wedding magazines….play on words….”Friends” sitcom vibe…..and wahlah! some magic happened.
I loved all the decor and small, intimate details of the wedding – from the black board hearts with little messages, to the coloured flags, to the imported Starbucks drinks. Having a picnic under a massive marquee with friends and family – wow! what a brilliant idea. To top it all off – which I think I’d have at my wedding someday – is they rigged up a large screen between two trees and had a black and white Katharine Hepburn movie playing! This was such a unique idea and really added a lovely feel and ambiance to the wedding. Thanks Jolene and Jono for the funky coffee shop idea – I had such a cool time with you both!xxx

A few months ago, a really good friend of mine Craig van der Westerhuizen asked me if I were to shoot my dream photoshoot anywhere, or of anything what and where it would be. I told him my dream was to do a boudoir shoot on an aeroplane. (You see, I have a secret love of aeroplanes – I spent most of my 20’s flying all over the place in search of myself….or it could have been to run away from growing up and having to face adult life. As long as I was flying somewhere, traveling somewhere I didn’t need to join the masses and have babies, find the perfect 9-5 job and live in a big house with a picket fence – scary!.)
Several days later, Craig mailed me very casually to say he’d made a few enquiries and organised a plane for me with the help of his friend Anton Kruger….I nearly passed out! A real aeroplane I thought???? Suddenly I felt a bit scared….I had ideas racing round inside my head….here my dream had literally been handed to me….and I suddenly didn’t know what to do with it. I couldn’t sleep for nights….a real plane which I’d have to myself to go completely nuts in, and shoot to my hearts content. Then everything starting unfolding. My mom was like “don’t think about it, just book your ticket to JHB and do it.” My friend Natasha mentioned she was going to JHB and would have the Friday off if I wanted to photograph her. So I asked around and Kat Forsyth (JHB photographer) recommended top make-up artist Sam Scaife from Lashline. – who was available. So with my model Natasha, make-up artist Sam, Kat as my amazing ‘oversee-er’ of the day and a massive 747 AEROPLANE in tow……the boudoir shoot unfolded.
The day of the shoot:
I woke up really early, blasted “Radiohead” in my hotel room and had a good (happy) cry. Kat fetched Natasha and myself and drove us to the Rand airport where Sam had already set up the make-up area. I felt sick with excitement. The walk up the aeroplane stairs felt like a long walk on the red carpet. Being in a massive aeroplane with no one else in it was quite a surreal experience for me. Sam started off with a really natural look for Natasha – I wanted something feminine and soft with just a hint of sexy. Later, since I wanted to bring a burlesque look into the shoot, Sam created a more sultry look.
Thanks to Jean at Sean at The Rand Airport who were so helpful and accommodating….and for letting me have that last…and then last…and then final shot before the aeroplane doors closed.
A bit about boudoir - wiki -”Historically, the boudoir formed part of the private suite of rooms of a lady, for bathing and dressing”. Taken from French meaning ‘to be sulky’. Today woman of all shapes and sizes can have a boudoir photoshoot done – something as a gift to themselves – or perhaps for a partner. My approach is more fine art – with a mix of gentle and feminine.
You can see more photo’s in the Ocotober 2011 issue of the top selling bridal magazine “MY WEDDING DAY“ and stand a chance to win your own private boudoir photoshoot with me.

Mark and Valeska contacted me a few days before their wedding and asked if I could photograph it for them. Being a Monday, I was free and headed off to Franschhoek on a beautiful sunny day. Valeska is from Germany and Mark is from the USA and they both spent a few weeks in South Africa traveling around before and after their wedding. It was fun to have the wedding party so small – the two of them, the minister and his wife, one witness and me! The ceremony was held in the beautiful gardens of Franschhoek Country House & Villas. Usually my time with the bride and groom is around 45 min to an hour, but with Mark and Valeska I was lucky enough to have around 2.5 hours!
Franschhoek Country House & Villa’s also offer spa treatments…..it’s an absolute Franschhoek gem…..and for those of you that have actually been to France, it actually feels like you’re in a French village. Bowls of bright yellow lemons adorn the venue. Fresh and inviting!
Thank you Mark and Valeska – I had such a good laugh with you both and you were so much fun to hang out with.xxx

Jacqui and Neil came over to Cape Town from the UK about two weeks ago and we did a fun engagement photoshoot in St James in the early evening. I highly recommend couples to get an engagement shoot done before they get married – it means both the couple and photographer know each other a bit better and the wedding day is more chilled out. Jax and Neil are sooooooooo in love, I barely had to give any direction in the photoshoot, they just kissed and cuddled all the time which was GREAT! and I just clicked away!! How cute are they???
Keep an eye out on my blog for their wedding photo’s which i’ll be posting in about a week! It’s going to be a bumper blog!!! I’ll be over in Ireland in July and England in August if any of Jacqui or Neil’s friends would like an engagement, wedding, maternity…..or boudoir photoshoot done!xxx

PART ONE:
When Inge and I met up at Bayside in Table View to chat about her and Donald’s wedding – we clicked instantly. She is an absolute honey of a person – bubbly, positive and warm. The day of the wedding arrived – Inge got ready at Rodwell House, a stunning boutique hotel in St James. There was lots of laughing during the getting ready and the energy was amazing – I knew the day was going to be a blast. Inge and Donald decided to have their ‘couple’ shots taken in two parts – the first part in St James before the ceremony, and then the 2nd part after the ceremony and drinks so we could make use of the beautiful sunset.
I promised them a bumper blog….so here I present to you part one! Part two to follow in the next two days ….keep a look-out for the cutest paige boys you’ve ever seen….

Ok, so if you’ve just arrived at this blog post and not yet seen part one, pop over to part one first!
Inge and Donald’s ceremony was held in Kalk Bay at The Bible Institute. Inge’s two sisters were her bridesmaids, she had a lovely young flower girl Jo, and two of her nephews Wikus and Franco were the paige boys. How cute are the boys? and their hats?
Inge and Donald headed for the pier in a green VW combi filled with balloons – the combi actually drove all the way onto the pier!!!… while a Scottish piper led all the guests along the road, across the railway track to join them for drinks and canapes. At the end of the pier fishermen were still fishing but what was so special and unique about this was that Inge had arranged for cushions and funky chairs for the guests, so it felt like an outdoor living room with the ocean on both sides like a massive ‘garden’. The reception was held inside the cozy Harbour House restaurant which is set into rocks on the ocean – pretty spectacular – and the night kicked off with musician Lonesome Dave Ferguson entertaining the guests with his funky-chilled out music. Inge and Donald – thank you – I left your wedding on such a high! I’m so excited to give you the rest of your wedding photo’s – there are hundreds to get through. xxx

Part One:
Jacqui and Neil flew over from the UK to get married at the stunning Allee Bleue venue in Franschhoek. The getting ready, the ceremony and the reception all took place here on the sunniest day among the gorgeous vineyards of Franschhoek. (Several days prior to that we arranged to meet in St James and do an engagement shoot – if you missed that pop over to the 5th April 2011 entry on my blog.) Jax and Neil have been two of the most easy-going couples I’ve photographed – they are so affectionate with each other they made photographing them an absolute pleasure.
This blog has taken a little while longer than planned to be published as i’ve had a ‘challenging’ (arrrghhhhhhh!!!!!) time with the South African internet – but it seems to be all back on track now…so I present to you part one! Keep a look-out for part two to follow tomorrow, where I’ll be uploading some photo’s from my first South African “Love Shack Photobooth”!

Part two of Jacqui and Neil’s gorgeous wedding. I have to say Allee Bleue is a fabulous venue – the staff are brilliantly efficient, the chef incredible and the overall venue an absolute dream place for a wedding. While we headed off to do the couple shoot, my assistant Anel stayed behind and took some photo’s of the willing guests at our new Love Shack Photo Booth. It was our first time doing the booth in South Africa and everyone had a good laugh. We stopped at the old railway track in Franschhoek for some photo’s and then The Riverside Cafe very kindly let us use the area behind their restaurant which has part of the Berg River running through it. Thanks for being so wonderful to photograph and for the most incredible wedding – a photographers dream: Manola Blahnik shoes….a gorgeous dress….beautiful details on the table…the perfect weather…funky gum boots…and a very happy and willing bride and groom up for anything! Jax and Neil – thank you!

Numerous wedding bookings come from word of mouth, and Nicola and Justin got hold of me through their friend Katherine. I photographed Katherine and Shaun’s wedding in September 2009. On Nicola and Justin’s day, everything happened at the beautiful Lagoon Beach Hotel – getting ready, ceremony and the reception aka PARTY! The view from this hotel is spectacular and probably the best place to enjoy Table Mountain. I don’t know what has gotten into me lately, but I love blogging in 2 parts…I think it helps with the exciting build up of seeing the photo’s…and it also means the wedding day experience can be stretched out a little bit longer. So here I present to you Part one of a magical day…

Here is part two of Nicola and Justin’s beautiful wedding. After the ceremony, while guests had drinks and canapes we headed off to do some family shots, followed by the creative shoot on the beach. Cape Town sunsets are spectacular – there is something quite magical and romantic about the way the soft orange-pink light gently wraps itself around you. I decided not to colour correct the skin tones on the beach as I love the sun-kissed look! Thanks Nicola and Justin for being so completely and absolutely incredible! xxx

Part One:
Durbanites are officially my favourite South African’s at the moment! Here are some facts about Durbanites (i’m sure you can find more on google.)
1. They are a really happy bunch!
2. Incredibly welcoming, down to earth and funny. (Lots of laughs throughout the day)
3. They party until the end with as much energy as when they started.
4. They have no willpower…yes those of you non-smokers who puffed away on Cuban cigars – you know who you are!
Tarryn and Shaun are Durbanites, now living in the UK. We built up a relationship via email so by the time they arrived in Cape Town it was as though I’d known them ages already. Their wedding was held at one of my favourite venues, Backsberg Estate in Franschhoek. Friends and family traveled from all over the country and abroad to make the day amazing. They had a live band called Paradigm who were just brilliant. This wedding was so much fun, my assistant Anel and I ended up leaving after midnight. (I’ll post all the suppliers details in part two.) Enjoy and thanks for your patience! Part two will be up over the next few days.

Christine and David’s wedding was my last wedding of the season. My assistant Anel and I drove up from Cape Town on a perfectly crisp and clear Friday morning. We were there for three hours taking photo’s of the intimate and small wedding party, and then headed off to do the creative shoot with Christine and David. Christine is one of the most adorable brides I’ve ever worked with – easy going and full of smiles all day. On our shoot we came across a couple of lemon trees. I got them each to close their eyes and smell a lemon – and then said that in future if/when they have a fight or disagreement, the one who is wrong should put a lemon under the other one’s pillow as a reminder of their wedding day.
Apologies for the late blog entry – it’s been a hectic – but fun season.

I was in Sweden in July to photograph Anahita and Gustav’s wedding. Click here to see the preview of their wedding which I posted a couple of weeks ago.
Being asked to shoot a destination wedding is really quite a privilege and I one I don’t take for granted. The opportunity to experience a new country, and take it in with all the senses is rather overwhelming. I flew into Sweden from Ireland where I had been previously for 3 weeks. Gustav and Anahita were so welcoming, I felt like I was re-connecting with old friends.
The day of the wedding arrived, and Gustav picked me up and dropped me off at the Clarion Hotel Gillet in Uppsala, where Anahita was getting ready. From the window we had a view of the Uppsala Cathedral Dome Church which was built in 1453. They decided to have most of their photos of the two of them done before they got married. Anahita waited on the railway track covering her face with an umbrella and Gustav walked up to meet her. I cannot recommend this enough to couples – meeting before the ceremony. The photos get done in a relaxed environment and then after the ceremony you get to spend all that time with family and guests.
This was the first time I got to photograph two ceremonies at the same wedding! The first was a Persian ceremony called the ‘Persian Aghd’ which is a legal Iranian ceremony filled with music, laughter, food and love. Each type of food that is laid out symbolises something in the marriage: honey eaten straight after the ceremony to ensure sweetness in life – first the groom dips his finger into the honey and offers it to the bride, then the bride does the same; walnuts, almonds and hazelnuts symbolise fertility; a large mirror for bringing brightness and light into the future. The bridal couple are then showered with gifts from friends and family and then enjoy a drink and food. From there we headed off to their 2nd ceremony at the Uppsala Cathedral Dome Church – absolutely towering in beauty! Both ceremonies were so beautiful and emotional – I shed some tears too, a combination of the moving service and the fact that I really and truly was in Sweden! The reception was held at the spectacular Uppsala Castle where speeches led into dinner, followed by some festive dancing.
Anahita och Gustav – Tack för att du bad mig att fotografera ditt bröllop. Det var en höjdpunkt i mitt år. Your family and friends were so kind and warm to me throughout the day, I was completely moved.

I was contacted by the US agency, Coolhunt to do a shoe photoshoot in Seapoint, Cape Town for ELLE MAGAZINE. The shoot was several months ago, and I’ve just gained access to the tear sheets. I’m so used to photographing shoes at weddings, it was a refreshing change to go into top fashionista Sherri-Lee Greenways home and photograph all her shoes! Her amazing shoe closet is the size of a bedroom! Great fun was had.
